The Northern War of Aggression against the Southern War for Secession was not about slavery. It was about economics. That is why Lincoln freed the southern slaves, but not the northern ones...the underground railroad didn't go to northern USA, it went to Canada.

Robert E. Lee inherited slaves 10 years before the war. His wife, against the laws at that time, taught them to read, write, and do math. They were all set free with the ability to care for themselves and their families.

Diaries of the soldiers on both sides asked why slavery, which was on its way out anyway, was brought into the war. Karl Marx wrote to Lincoln and told him to use the slavery issue. Why? Because slaves were personal property and Marx' number one goal was eliminating private personal property. His letters to Lincoln are in the Smithsonian.

The blacks were brought here by fellow blacks who had won wars against their tribe, been captured and sold for funds. The largest slave owner in the south was a black woman. The next largest owner was a black man. I can't remember the exact figures, but it was something like only 7.8% or so of the south who owned slaves.

Lincoln authorized Grant to allow William Tecumseh Sherman to slaughter non-combatants, both black and white, young and old and to destroy any fields, pharmacies, hospitals, libraries or schools. In doing do, 80,000 more innocent southern people died.

More Americans died in this war than those who died in WWII.
